Screen Capture

Have you ever needed to make a "screen capture" of an error message so you describe a problem to your computer tech? If the computer will still function after you get an error, you'll be able to show the problem to someone that might be able to help.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a problem, it could be anything that you would like to have a copy of.

Here's a simple way to do it.

Just press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard (usually just to the right of the F12 key) while the error or whatever is on the screen.  This will copy the complete screen.  If you have a window open and it's the "active" (active window will have blue bar across the top), press ALT + Print Screen at the same.  This will copy just the active window.

Open any word processor that will allow graphics. Notepad is a text only editing tool and does not allow graphics. Most computers have Wordpad and it's a good tool to accomplish this task. Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft Works will also handle graphics.

Right click in the window and click on Paste. Tada! Save the file and you can attach it to an email if needed.

Thanks and Happy Computing!
